A sudden fire broke out late Thursday night at the Government College of Art and Crafts in Jeypore, causing damage to computers and various institutional assets.
According to initial reports, the fire started late at night due to a suspected electrical short circuit. The incident came to light when heavy smoke was seen billowing from the college premises. Recognising the emergency, College Principal Yudhisthir Mallick immediately alerted the local fire services.
Upon receiving the news, the Jeypore Fire Services team rushed to the spot and commenced operations. Their prompt action brought the blaze under control quickly, preventing the flames from spreading to adjacent classrooms and administrative blocks.
While multiple computers, valuable equipment, and institutional materials were burned in the blaze, the exact extent of the financial damage is yet to be formally assessed. Officials noted that while a short circuit is believed to be the primary cause, a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact source of the fire and evaluate the full scale of the losses.
