Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation administration will stop the drive-in and door-to-door vaccination initiative from May 22.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation administration has informed that the inoculation exercise under the novel initiative will continue as planned till May 22 as the slot bookings have been completed till the said date.

The BMC had launched 5 drive-in vaccination centres in the city and kicked off vaccination at the doorstep for elderly and divyang citizens in the city.

The Odisha health department on Wednesday stopped the district administrations and municipal corporations from conducting door-step and drive-in vaccinations for Covid-19.

Sources said the health department move to discourage doorstep vaccination was following allegations that some ‘influential’ people used it to get the shots. The move to stop drive-in shots was followed by a complaint in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging gross mismanagement and malpractices in the drive-in vaccination in Bhubaneswar.
