Bhubaneswar: Elderly Man Goes Missing After Wife Asks Him to Read Bhagavad Gita Instead of Watching TV Serials

Domestic spat over entertainment vs spirituality turns serious as 24-hour search begins for missing senior citizen Mangu Sahu

What began as a routine Friday evening at home ended with an elderly man walking out in anger — and not returning even after a full day.

Mangu Sahu stormed out of his house following a heated argument with his wife, who had urged him to stop watching television serials and instead read the Bhagavad Gita.

The suggestion, intended perhaps as gentle spiritual advice, triggered a sharp quarrel that escalated quickly.

According to the family, Mangu left the house in a rage late on Friday evening. When he failed to return or contact anyone, even after 24 hours, his worried wife rushed to the Maitree Vihar police station and lodged a missing person complaint. Police have registered the case and launched a search operation across the city to trace the elderly man.

Family members remain deeply anxious, especially given his age and the sudden nature of his departure. The incident has left neighbours and relatives shocked, highlighting how even small differences in daily habits — between the pull of TV dramas and the call of spiritual reading — can sometimes lead to unexpected and worrying outcomes.

Police have appealed to the public for any information about Mangu Sahu’s whereabouts and urged anyone who may have seen him to immediately inform the nearest police station.
