Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician C Joseph Vijay, has officially joined the opposition’s protest in Chennai against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan confirmed TVK’s participation, noting that the newly emerged party has aligned with the state-level INDIA bloc.
The demonstration was organised to contest the Election Commission’s voter list revision exercise, with opposition parties expressing fears that eligible voters might be wrongfully excluded.
Protesters also demanded the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, criticising the poll panel’s handling of electoral procedures.
TVK’s involvement follows a series of significant political moves, including participation in a state-level opposition meeting on Oct 3 and a high-profile meeting between Vijay and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Chennai on Oct 10.
Launched in 2024, TVK’s growing alignment with the INDIA bloc marks a major step in its electoral journey. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has sought responses from the Election Commission over petitions challenging the controversial revision process.
