In a chilling case where a staged accident failed to deceive forensic investigators, a local court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday awarded the death penalty to a woman and her lover for murdering her husband.

The convicts, identified as Ravita and her paramour Amardeep, strangled Amit Kashyap to death before attempting to pass off the crime as a fatal snakebite. However, a critical flaw in their execution exposed the conspiracy: police investigators discovered that the snake placed at the crime scene had been defanged and was entirely non-venomous.

A Calculated Plot and Forensic Unravelling

According to trial proceedings, Ravita and Amardeep conspired to eliminate Kashyap to continue their extramarital relationship. After strangling Kashyap, the duo threw a snake onto the body to make the death appear accidental.

Subsequent medical and forensic examinations revealed that the victim died of asphyxiation due to strangulation rather than envenomation. Forensic experts further confirmed that the snake used in the setup lacked fangs, directly linking the staged scene to a deliberate cover-up.

’Unforgivable Act’: Court Orders Capital Punishment

Pronouncing the verdict after exhaustive hearings, District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra handed down the death sentence to both convicts, noting the severe breach of trust and heinous nature of the crime.

”A wife observes Karva Chauth for her husband’s long life… this act committed against her husband is unforgivable,” the judge observed during sentencing.

Addressing the plight of the couple’s three minor children, the court directed the District Magistrate to assume responsibility for their care, welfare, and state protection.

Second Capital Punishment Verdict in Meerut Within a Week

The ruling marks the second instance within a week where a Meerut court has awarded capital punishment in a spousal murder conspiracy.

Earlier this week, Muskaan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla were sentenced to death for murdering Rastogi’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, and entombing his dismembered body inside a concrete-filled industrial drum—a case that drew widespread public shock across Uttar Pradesh.
