BCCI To Serve Notice To Players For Preferring IPL Over Ranji Trophy: Report

43

As per recent reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking strict measures to ensure that players in the domestic circuit prioritize the esteemed Ranji Trophy over the Indian Premier League.

The apex institution for cricket in India is reportedly seeking to take action against players who are skipping the Ranji Trophy 2024 without valid reasons. The only acceptable reasons for exemption are if the player is undergoing recovery or is on national duty at any level.

The BCCI plans to communicate with all players in the next few days and urge them to play for their state team in the Ranji Trophy, except for those who are unfit and recovering at the NCA. The board is unhappy with players who have already shifted their focus to the IPL, starting from January.

There has been speculation around the absence of Ishan Kishan, who withdrew from the South Africa tour citing mental fatigue. He has not played for India since November 2023 and was recently spotted training with the Pandya brothers in Baroda after a long vacation.

The Indian Cricket Team’s coach Rahul Dravid has also spoken about the issue and stated that Ishan Kishan needs to play some domestic cricket to return to the national team scenario. Interestingly, Ishan has also pulled out of the Ranji Trophy, stating his unavailability for Jharkhand.
