Kalki 2, the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, is aiming for a grand theatrical release in December 2027, with filming scheduled to conclude by April that year.
Director Nag Ashwin leads the ambitious project, which follows the massive box office success of the first film. The extended timeline reflects the scale of production and the heavy post-production workload required for its ambitious visual effects.
The sequel will intensify the conflict with Kamal Haasan’s Supreme Yaskin, featuring larger sci-fi battles and expanded world-building. Haasan’s role, limited in the first film, will take centre stage in the escalating narrative.
Audiences will also witness the reunion of cinematic legends Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan after four decades, their last collaboration being Geraftaar in 1985. Alongside Prabhas and Sai Pallavi, the ensemble positions Kalki 2 as one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2027.
The sequel will directly continue the events of Kalki 2898 AD, deepening the mythology and emotional stakes while introducing larger-scale action sequences. Sources describe it as significantly larger than its predecessor, with the “real battle” of the Kalki universe beginning here.
Post-production is expected to be lengthy and resource-intensive, given the extensive VFX and world-building requirements. Preparations for major action sequences starring Prabhas have already begun, underscoring the filmmakers’ ambition to surpass the original.
