Police in Bhubaneswar uncovered a major racket involving a fake agency that posed as CID officers to extort money from unsuspecting citizens.

Acting on complaints, police raided the office of the so-called “City Investigation Detective” agency and arrested eight individuals, including four women.

The accused have been identified as Pooja Behera, Pratima Parida, Jenamani Pradhan, Saubhagya Sahu, Dharmendra Boitai, Manoj Kumar Mishra, Annapurna Panda, and Nilu Nayak. They allegedly contacted people directly or over the phone, introduced themselves as CID officials, and threatened victims with false charges to extract money.

Investigators revealed that the group not only extorted cash but also harassed victims mentally and financially. Police seized evidence during the raid, though details of the materials recovered have not yet been disclosed. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the racket and whether more individuals are involved.

The arrests have raised public concern about the growing number of frauds carried out under the guise of private detective agencies and fake law enforcement identities. Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report such incidents to the emergency helpline 100 or the cyber helpline.
