A single positive case has brought COVID-19 back into the spotlight in Odisha’s capital.
On Thursday, a 50-year-old resident of the Baramunda area in Bhubaneswar tested positive for the virus at a private hospital, marking the first reported infection in the city in recent months.
The man had been admitted to the private facility due to illness. Routine testing confirmed the COVID-19 infection, hospital authorities informed. Details about his current health condition and the possible source of the infection remain unavailable. The development has quickly revived public discussion and concern about the virus’s quiet return to the state capital.
This is not an isolated signal in the region. Last month, a woman in Ganjam district tested positive after suffering from cold and fever. She was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where her test returned positive.
Earlier still, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh recorded 12 COVID-19 cases between 26 June and 16 July, of which four patients succumbed to the infection. Health experts and officials are expected to monitor the situation closely as these scattered cases raise questions about community transmission and preparedness.
While the current case in Bhubaneswar appears limited, the news has already stirred conversations across the city. Authorities have not yet issued any additional advisories.
