An accident in Bhubaneswar on Friday morning left Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Krushna Chandra Sethi injured.
The officer was cycling near the Bhubaneswar Club when an ‘Ama Bus’ struck him from behind.
Eyewitnesses said the impact threw Sethi off his bicycle, causing injuries that required immediate medical attention. Capital Police personnel reached the spot quickly, rescued the officer, and took him to a nearby hospital. He remains under medical supervision, and doctors are assessing the extent of his injuries.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining whether reckless driving led to the collision. Officials are questioning the bus driver and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
The accident has drawn attention to recurring safety concerns involving ‘Ama Bus’ operations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Several previous accidents involving the city bus service have resulted in injuries and fatalities. This latest incident, involving a senior police officer, has renewed calls for stricter monitoring and driver accountability.
Authorities emphasised that public transport safety must remain a top priority. Police urged citizens to report rash driving or unsafe bus operations immediately through the helpline number 100 or the cyber helpline.
