Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made history on Saturday by becoming the first sitting Australian leader to get married while in office. The 62-year-old PM tied the knot with longtime partner Jodie Haydon, a 46-year-old financial services professional, in a private ceremony held in the gardens of his official residence, The Lodge, in Canberra.
Albanese shared his joy in a statement, saying, “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends.”
On social media, the Prime Minister marked the occasion with a simple post: “Married.” The accompanying video captured Albanese in a bow-tie holding hands with his bride, who looked radiant in a long white gown, as confetti rained around them.
A Long-Awaited Celebration
The couple’s wedding took place more than a year after Albanese proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024, declaring he had found the partner “I want to spend the rest of my life with.” They wrote their own vows and were married by a celebrant, AFP reported.
Haydon has been a constant presence alongside Albanese, attending public events, supporting him during his 2022 election campaign, and celebrating Labor’s decisive win in May 2025.
After the ceremony, the couple walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)”, with their first dance set to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight”.
The newlyweds will enjoy a private honeymoon in Australia from Monday through Friday next week, with all expenses covered personally.

Albanese, who divorced his former wife in 2019, has a son named Nathan. He met Jodie Haydon more than five years ago at a business dinner in Melbourne, and their relationship has since become a supportive partnership both personally and professionally.
