A woman attempted self‑immolation outside Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Friday, accusing Banpur police of falsely implicating her and keeping her in jail for three months without reason.
Eyewitnesses said the woman poured petrol on herself near Gate No. 1 before security personnel from the SSB quickly overpowered her and prevented the act. She broke down in tears, shouting that Banpur police had arrested her in a fabricated case and ruined her life.
The woman claimed she had no involvement in any crime and that police detained her unjustly. She said she had repeatedly sought justice but received no response, prompting her desperate protest.
Security forces immediately secured the area and took her into custody for questioning. Officials confirmed that she would undergo medical evaluation and counselling.
