In a significant push to integrate cutting-edge technology into governance and education, the Higher Education Department today inaugurated a three-day “Skill Development on Artificial Intelligence (AI)” workshop at Rama Devi Women’s University.
All officers and employees of the Higher Education Department are participating in the programme.
The inaugural session was attended by Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department Aravind Agrawal, Vice-Chancellor of Rama Devi Women’s University Professor Jyotsna K.B. Rout, IIT Madras educator S. Nithi, Director Kali Prasanna Mahapatra, Additional Secretary Dharanidhar Nanda and other senior officials.
The dignitaries stressed the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in both educational and administrative domains. They underlined the need for high-quality research in AI and the urgency of equipping students, teachers, researchers and administrative officers with practical AI skills so that the technology can be implemented effectively and responsibly.
On the first day, participants were introduced to the basic concepts of AI, its practical applications in education and administration, and a range of free AI-powered mobile applications. Hands-on training focused on the correct and ethical deployment of these tools.
The workshop will continue until 31 July 2026 at Rama Devi Women’s University, offering intensive sessions aimed at building a future-ready workforce within Odisha’s higher education ecosystem.
This initiative marks a proactive step by the state government to harness the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence for better teaching, learning and public administration.
