Tragedy has struck Sarala village under Jampali panchayat in Baragada district, where residents are grieving the disappearance of Gunnam Saibindu Kumari and her two‑year‑old daughter Hariksha in the devastating floods of Nepal.
According to reports, Saibindu Kumari and her child were swept away by floodwaters while her husband, Gunnam Jayakrishna, an engineer at a hydro power project in Nepal, was away on duty in the hills. Jayakrishna has been confirmed safe, but his wife and daughter remain untraced.
The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over Sarala village. Local administration in Bargarh has confirmed that it is in constant communication with Nepalese authorities to aid in the search and to ensure Jayakrishna’s safe return to Odisha.
The Bhote Koshi river region near the Tibet border has witnessed massive destruction, with homes, markets, and infrastructure washed away. Hundreds remain missing, and the death toll continues to rise.
