The High-Level Committee, chaired by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, has approved Rs 2006.40 crore in Central assistance to aid Himachal Pradesh’s recovery from the devastating floods, landslides, and cloudbursts of 2023.

The relief package was sanctioned under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support reconstruction efforts in the state. Of this, Rs 1504.80 crore will be provided from the Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window.

Previously, in December 2023, an additional Rs 633.73 crore had been released to Himachal Pradesh for immediate relief. The latest funding aims to enhance rebuilding efforts, ensuring infrastructure restoration and community support.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has consistently prioritised disaster resilience and recovery. Several initiatives led by Home Minister Shri Amit Shah aim to strengthen disaster risk reduction across India.

The Central Government has approved multiple recovery plans, including:

  • Rs 1658.17 crore for Uttarakhand’s Joshimath Subsistence crisis

  • Rs 555.27 crore for Sikkim’s GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood) disaster

Additionally, mitigation projects worth ₹7253.51 crore have been sanctioned nationwide to tackle risks associated with:

  • Urban Floods – Rs 3075.65 crore

  • Landslides – Rs 1000 crore

  • GLOF incidents – Rs 150 crore

  • Forest Fires – Rs 818.92 crore

  • Lightning incidents – Rs 186.78 crore

  • Drought conditions – Rs 2022.16 crore

Alongside the specific assistance for Himachal Pradesh, the Central Government has disbursed ₹20,264.40 crore in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) across 28 states, while ₹5,160.76 crore has been allocated under the NDRF for 19 states in FY 2024-25.

Furthermore, additional funds have been released:

  • Rs 4984.25 crore under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) for 19 states

  • Rs 719.72 crore under National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) for 8 states

The Government of India continues to reinforce its commitment to disaster resilience and recovery, ensuring affected states receive prompt financial assistance for rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts. The latest aid for Himachal Pradesh marks a significant step towards recovery, enabling the state to restore essential infrastructure and support affected communities.
