In a significant breakthrough, security forces arrested two terrorist associates in the Qaimoh area of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the arrests were made in Thokerpora locality, police sources confirmed on Saturday. Further details on the identities and affiliations of the suspects are awaited.
The development comes days after the heinous Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals — including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen — when terrorists targeted tourists at Baisaran meadow, triggering nationwide outrage.
In response, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar to review the security situation and counter-terror operations. He was briefed on internal operations to neutralise militants and ongoing efforts to counter ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a high-level meeting with the Army Chief and senior security officials, called for intensified action to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem. Emphasising nationwide anger and grief, he stated, “Every perpetrator and supporter of the Pahalgam attack must be hunted down and made to pay.”
Senior Army leaders, including Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, and Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, attended the security review. Search operations continue across sensitive areas of J&K to ensure all operatives linked to the attack are brought to justice.
