Two people died, and around 50 families were rescued after a massive fire broke out in a residential building in Sector 66, Noida.

Police said the blaze was triggered by sparks from an electric vehicle battery that was being charged on the ground floor.

The sparks reportedly ignited nearby petrol‑powered vehicles, causing the fire to spread rapidly through the G+4 building. On receiving the alert, seven fire tenders, a hydraulic platform, and teams led by the Chief Fire Officer and local police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The flames were brought under control after several hours.

Eyewitness Arnav Singh said an electric scooter was being charged when a short circuit sparked the fire. “We were upstairs and had to flee before emergency teams arrived. A ladder was positioned from above, allowing around 150–200 people to escape,” he recounted.

Police confirmed that a man and a woman, believed to be a couple, succumbed to smoke inhalation while being taken to the district hospital. An FIR has been registered against the building owner under relevant provisions, and the accused has been taken into custody.

Authorities said the building housed nearly 50 families, all of whom were safely evacuated. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and assess safety lapses.
