A controversial and now-deleted social media post by the Kerala Congress targeting Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has sparked a major political row.
Following intense backlash and criticism from ruling party leaders, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) acted swiftly by removing the worker responsible for the post from their duties.
The Controversial Post and KPCC’s Response
The controversy erupted after the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Kerala Congress published a post reacting to CJI Surya Kant’s remarks regarding capital protests, where the Chief Justice stated that local law and order situations do not fall under judicial purview. The deleted post had controversially stated:
“If law and order is not in your domain, resign now. We will find your replacement who can handle it.”
KPCC President Sunny Joseph condemned the remarks, clarifying that the post was published entirely without the knowledge, consent, or consultation of the party leadership.
“The KPCC will examine the circumstances under which such a post was made. The Congress party has no disagreement with regard to the impartiality of the judiciary. Social media posts expressing views contrary to this position do not reflect the stand of the KPCC leadership,” Joseph stated.
Political Backlash
The remarks drew sharp criticism from across the political spectrum. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed the opposition party on social media, alleging that the Congress intended to undermine India’s core constitutional and democratic institutions.
While the offending post was taken down promptly to mitigate fallout, the incident has ignited renewed discussions regarding official party communication guidelines and institutional decorum on digital platforms.
