A major traffic disruption occurred on Monday morning when a truck (OR‑09P‑8648) collided with a railway gate near Virsamunda crossing in Barasua, under Lahunipada block of Banei subdivision.
The incident took place around 9 am when the truck’s rear lift accidentally rose and struck the iron beam of Railway Gate No. 3, causing the structure to break and fall onto the vehicle’s cabin. The cabin and windshield were severely damaged, but the driver escaped narrowly and fled the scene.
The accident led to a four‑hour traffic jam, with vehicles stranded on both sides of the crossing. On receiving information, Tensa police officers and railway staff rushed to the spot. A crane was deployed to remove the truck, and repair work was carried out on the damaged gate.
Normal traffic resumed only after the gate was fixed. Authorities confirmed that no casualties occurred, though the mishap highlighted the risks of mechanical negligence.
Local residents expressed relief that the accident did not result in injuries but urged stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles near railway crossings to prevent similar incidents.
