The flood situation in Odisha remains a key point of focus as the Mundali barrage is expected to record a peak flow of approximately 8 lakh cusecs of water by this evening, according to the Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department, Dilip Rout.
Addressing a press meet, Rout shared that by 12:00 today, Mundali had already registered 7,83,000 cusecs of water flowing downstream. However, authorities have offered a sign of relief, noting that the water volume in Mahanadi is expected to gradually decrease after this evening.
Other Rivers Stabilising
Providing an encouraging overview of the state’s broader river systems, the Engineer-in-Chief confirmed that Mahanadi is currently the primary river experiencing a flood-like swell.

Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Jalaka, Baitarani, and Salandi have all witnessed a noticeable drop in water levels.

Brahmani River is currently free from any flood threat.

Rivers across South Odisha have also seen their water levels recede significantly.
Impacted Districts
The surge in the Mahanadi River system is primarily projected to affect low-lying regions and agricultural lands across four key districts: Kataka, Khordha, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur. Additionally, specific low-lying pockets in the Patkura and Garadpur blocks of Kendrapada district are expected to face marginal impacts from the rising waters.
District administrations remain on high alert, closely monitoring embankments and preparing relief measures as the state navigates the peak of the current monsoon surge.
