Bhubaneswar: At least three persons were arrested for allegedly torturing a minor boy during the Odisha State Athletics Meet in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The arrestees have been identified as Ashish Kumar Patra (27), Jagannath Das (27), and Suraj Thakur (24) from Rourkela of Sundergarh district.
According to reports, the matter came to the fore after the minor lodged a complaint with Infocity police station regarding torture and sexual harassment.
In the complaint, the victim alleged that the seniors used to torture, humiliate and sexual abuse him at a hostel where the athletes were kept during the meet which was held between April 8 and April 10. Moreover, the senior players had initially hurled slang at him for failing to qualify in the long jump event held on April 9. Later, they sexually abused him and make a video call to two friends.
Acting on the complaint, the cops have booked the accused under India Penal Code sections- 342, 323, 506, 34 and 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and forwarded them to the court.
Further investigation is underway in this regard.
