The Tamil Nadu gas tragedy claimed another life today, raising the death toll to 11. An Odia woman undergoing treatment succumbed to injuries, intensifying grief across Keonjhar district.

The deceased has been identified as Sumitra Juanga from Pitanaali village under Telkoi block in Keonjhar. Earlier, another victim, Deepanjali Juanga from Raidihi village under Bansapala block, also lost her life. Both women were among several Odia migrant workers affected by the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing unit in Tiruvallur district.

Reports confirm that nine Odia women had died until yesterday. With today’s two deaths, the toll has climbed to 11, sparking outrage and sorrow in Odisha. Families of the victims are demanding accountability and immediate support from authorities.

The tragedy unfolded when ammonia gas leaked inside the factory, trapping workers. Many were rushed to hospitals in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, fatalities continue to rise.

The Tamil Nadu gas tragedy highlights the vulnerability of migrant workers employed in hazardous industries. Odisha officials are coordinating with Tamil Nadu authorities to ensure proper medical care for survivors and safe return for others.

The incident has triggered widespread concern over workplace safety standards and the urgent need for stricter monitoring of industrial units.
