A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kalimela’s Mudakhal village when two-year-old Dasarath Sodi drowned after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit near his home.
The boy, son of Bira and Sunali Sodi, had returned from the Anganwadi centre and was playing outside while his mother cooked lunch. His father had gone to graze cattle in the nearby forest.
When Sunali finished cooking, she searched for her son but could not find him. Villagers joined the frantic search, but the child remained missing. Later, Sunali discovered Dasarath’s body floating in the pit dug for a toilet, just twenty meters from their house.
Police registered an unnatural death case and conducted a post-mortem before handing over the body to the grieving family. The village is now engulfed in sorrow, with neighbours mourning alongside the devastated parents, who lost their only child.
