The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested another suspect in connection with the Sundarpada bomb blast case registered at the Airfield Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
Officials identified the accused as Rohan Ranjan Routray, a resident of Patia, Bhubaneswar. He was taken into custody from Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, an NIA team visited the blast site in Azad Nagar and conducted a detailed spot investigation. The agency is probing the case from multiple angles, including the circumstances of the explosion, possible criminal linkages, and potential connections to terrorist activities.
The incident occurred on January 27 in Sundarpada’s Azad Nagar area, where a powerful blast killed the main accused, Sehenbaz Mallik alias Mafi and his mother, who later succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Following the explosion, the NIA registered a case and took over the investigation from Commissionerate Police. During the probe, investigators seized RDX explosive material, confirming the use of high-intensity explosives.
The agency is now focusing on tracing the source of the explosives, Mafi’s interstate connections, and links to his earlier criminal cases. So far, investigators have interrogated more than 10 persons in connection with the case.
