A severe heatwave continues to impact several parts of Odisha, with temperatures crossing the 40°C mark in multiple districts. The rising mercury levels have intensified discomfort, particularly in western and interior regions of the state.
According to weather data, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 40.6°C, making it the hottest location in the state.
Multiple Districts Witness Rising Temperatures
Several districts reported significantly high temperatures:
- Titlagarh: 40°C
- Hirakud and Sonepur: 39.2°C
- Angul: 39.1°C
- Bhadrak and Bolangir: 39°C
In most other regions, temperatures remained above 38°C, reflecting widespread heatwave conditions across the state.
Western Odisha Faces Extreme Conditions
The impact of the heatwave is most severe in western districts such as:
- Nuapada
- Kalahandi
- Sundargarh
- Rourkela
Temperatures in these regions are expected to range between 40°C and 42°C in the coming days, accompanied by hot and humid conditions.
In contrast, coastal districts are experiencing relatively lower temperatures, creating a noticeable weather divide within the state.
IMD Issues Heat Warning for Key Districts
The India Meteorological Department has issued a “hot and humid” warning, stating that these conditions are likely to persist for the next three days.
A Yellow warning has been issued for:
- Ganjam
- Gajapati
- Puri
Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Relief Expected from April 5
Weather officials have indicated a possible change in conditions starting April 5. Some districts may experience:
- Light to moderate rainfall
- Thunderstorms and lightning
- Winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h
However, until then, the primary concern remains the ongoing heatwave and rising temperatures.
