The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) has launched a pilot door‑to‑door voter‑list verification drive in Bhubaneswar ahead of the upcoming Panchayat and Urban elections in 2027.
The initiative aims to ensure clean, error‑free and transparent electoral rolls across the state.
The pilot survey will run from September 3 to 11 under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), covering three Assembly constituencies — Bhubaneswar North (Ward 10), Bhubaneswar Central (Ward 35) and Bhubaneswar Ekamra (Ward 52).
Following the pilot phase, the statewide door‑to‑door verification will be conducted from October 26 to November 7, targeting both rural and urban constituencies. The exercise seeks to correct inaccuracies in voter rolls, resolve unclear house numbers and overlapping ward boundaries, and ensure that every eligible voter is correctly listed.
Officials noted that many urban wards currently lack defined boundaries, leading to confusion where a single household’s members are registered across multiple polling areas. The new system aims to fix these discrepancies and improve urban voter turnout, which has historically been low due to such issues.
Teams led by Revenue Level Officers (RLOs) and field staff will visit households to verify details. The SEC has urged citizens to cooperate fully and provide accurate information to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process.
State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi said the initiative will help prepare a clean, error‑free and well‑structured voter list for the forthcoming elections.
