India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has finally opened up about his decision to leave the Rajasthan Royals and join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026, saying he does not let emotions influence his game.
Samson, who was traded to CSK for ₹18 crore, revealed that he felt his journey with Rajasthan had reached its natural conclusion and it was time for a new challenge.
“Don’t Let Emotions Rule Me”
Speaking to the media, Samson said he remains focused on performance, even when facing his former team.
“This is the first time I will play against Rajasthan Royals, but I don’t let emotions rule me on the field. I left because I felt my time there was over. I will always give my best for my current team.”
The 31-year-old had been a key figure for Rajasthan Royals, leading them to the IPL 2022 final, where they finished runners-up to the Gujarat Titans.
Excited to Play Under MS Dhoni
Samson also expressed excitement about joining CSK and playing under legendary captain MS Dhoni.
He revealed that he has already spoken with Dhoni and is looking forward to learning from him during the season.
“I have always had positive interactions with Dhoni bhai. Spending two months with him in CSK will be a great opportunity to learn and grow.”
Special Bond with Chennai Crowd
The Kerala batter fondly recalled the strong support he received from Chennai fans during the T20 World Cup, saying it motivates him to perform for CSK.
“The support I got in Chennai was special. I feel lucky and don’t want to disappoint them. I will give my best for CSK.”
Strong Form Ahead of IPL 2026
Samson heads into the tournament in excellent form after a standout ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he scored 321 runs, including match-winning performances against the West Indies cricket team and England cricket team.
He registered impressive scores of 97, 89, and 89* in crucial matches, playing a vital role in India’s campaign.
CSK vs RR Clash to Kick Off Campaign
The upcoming IPL season will see an exciting start, with CSK taking on Rajasthan Royals in their opening match at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on March 30.
All eyes will be on Samson as he faces his former franchise for the first time in CSK colours.
