Persistent rain delayed the start of the IPL 2026 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians by over three hours at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, eventually reducing the contest to a high-octane 11-overs-a-side affair.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, returning from illness, won the toss and elected to bowl first, setting the stage for an aggressive batting display from the Royals.

Rajasthan Royals openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wasted no time in capitalizing on the shortened format. The pair forged a blistering 80-run opening stand in just five overs, with Sooryavanshi particularly impressive against the vaunted Mumbai attack. The teenager even greeted Jasprit Bumrah with a massive six off the first ball he faced from the star pacer, announcing his arrival in style.

Sooryavanshi hammered 39 off just 14 deliveries, showcasing fearless strokeplay that included boundaries and sixes. Jaiswal, equally destructive, remained unbeaten on 77 off 32 balls, reaching his half-century in just 23 deliveries with a fierce cut shot. Their explosive partnership laid the foundation for RR’s commanding total.

At the innings break, Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable **150 for 3 in 11 overs**, at a run rate of over 13.63. Shimron Hetmyer was at the crease with 6 runs as the innings concluded. The powerplay was truncated to 3.2 overs, and bowling restrictions were adjusted accordingly, with one bowler permitted a maximum of three overs and two others limited to two each.

The rain-interrupted conditions and revised playing rules turned the match into a pure hitting contest, putting immense pressure on the Mumbai Indians chase.

With a target of 151 to win in 11 overs, MI will need a near-perfect batting performance, especially against a Royals bowling unit featuring Jofra Archer, Ravindra Jadeja, and others.

This encounter highlights the unpredictable excitement of T20 cricket, where rain can dramatically alter the script but often produces thrilling, boundary-filled action.

Fans will now watch closely to see if Mumbai Indians can overcome the steep target set by the Rajasthan Royals’ young guns.
