Rajasthan Royals delivered a statement performance in a rain-interrupted 11-over contest at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, defeating Mumbai Indians by 27 runs to climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table.

After multiple rain delays forced a shortened game, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first. Rajasthan Royals capitalised on the conditions with an aggressive approach, racing to an imposing total of 150 for 3.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi unleashed a breathtaking assault on the Mumbai bowling attack. The pair added 80 runs in just under five overs, with Sooryavanshi smashing 39 off only 14 balls, including five sixes. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on a stunning 77 off 32 deliveries, laced with 10 fours and 4 sixes, bringing up his half-century in a mere 23 balls.

Rajasthan crossed the 100-run mark in just 7.3 overs and plundered 94 runs in the powerplay (reduced to 3.2 overs due to rain), showcasing exceptional intent and execution in the truncated format. Skipper Riyan Parag contributed a quick 20 off 10 balls to push the total past 150.

Mumbai Indians’ reply got off to a disastrous start, slumping to 22 for 3 inside the first three overs. Rajasthan’s pace and spin attack maintained tight control throughout. Nandre Burger and Ravi Bishnoi each claimed two wickets, while Sandeep Sharma delivered economical figures of 2 for 26.

Sherfane Rutherford provided the only notable resistance with a quick 25 off 8 balls, but it was not enough to stabilize the innings. Mumbai managed 123 for 9 in their 11 overs, falling well short of the revised target.

The victory highlighted Rajasthan Royals’ clarity of purpose and ability to adapt seamlessly to challenging conditions. Their batting displayed fearless aggression, while the bowling unit executed disciplined plans to restrict Mumbai.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals have surged to the top of the IPL 2026 standings, sending a strong message to the rest of the competition. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, will look to regroup after a difficult outing marked by early collapses. The match, though shortened, provided plenty of entertainment and reaffirmed the Royals’ credentials as serious contenders this season.
