Commuters in the state capital are set to get major relief from chronic traffic congestion as the much-awaited parallel road near Salia Sahi will be open to traffic by April 30.
Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced after personally reviewing the ongoing construction work on Tuesday.
The minister visited the site, inspected the progress, and directed officials to accelerate the remaining work so that the deadline is met without fail. He later shared the update on his official X handle.

The new road will function as a vital alternative to the heavily congested Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan stretch and is expected to significantly ease the daily traffic burden in Bhubaneswar. Once operational, it will provide smoother connectivity to key locations, including CRPF Chowk, Utkal Hospital, and the Infosys campus, especially during peak hours.
The state government had already provided rehabilitation support and financial assistance to families displaced during land acquisition in the Salia Sahi area.
Minister Harichandan said the parallel road is part of the state government’s larger plan to tackle Bhubaneswar’s growing traffic problems through multiple infrastructure projects. “After completion, this road will prove to be a big convenience for the general public,” he added.
Officials described the project as a crucial step towards solving the city’s worsening traffic jams. Local residents and daily commuters, especially those travelling from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar for work, have welcomed the development, saying the new route will save both time and fuel.
Construction crews are working around the clock to ensure the road is completed within the stipulated timeframe, the Works Department said.
