A team of filmmakers from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and NYU Tisch School of the Arts has announced a major English-language feature film inspired by the life and advocacy of Ranjeeta Priyadarshini, Founder and Global Campaigner of the Paid Period Leave movement.
The announcement was made at the UNCC, United Nations Plaza, during the Global Summit on Paid Period Leave. The narrative will chronicle Priyadarshini’s transformation into a global champion for workplace equality and menstrual dignity.
The story traces her crusade across international platforms—ranging from the United Nations in Nairobi and New York to the UK Parliament and several regions in India—demanding that menstrual health be recognised as a vital aspect of employee welfare and labour rights.
The creative team is helmed by NYFA alumni Sanya, Damilola Adeyeri, and Sheldon Armstrong on direction and production. The screenplay is penned by Khue Nguyen (NYFA) alongside Gabriel Henneman (NYU Tisch), with Arturo de las Fuentes serving as cinematographer.
By highlighting Priyadarshini’s journey of resilience and determination, the filmmakers aim to leverage cinema to broaden global awareness around menstrual equity, inspiring policymakers and corporate leaders to cultivate genuinely inclusive, equitable workplaces worldwide.
