Speaking at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of undermining democratic movements that seek systemic accountability and government reforms.
Acknowledging that demonstrations highlighting government shortcomings are necessary for a healthy democracy, PM Modi alleged that the Congress acts as a “parasite” that sabotages non-partisan movements and suppresses young opposition voices to keep a single family in the spotlight.
Taking a sharp swipe at the principal opposition party over its political messaging, the Prime Minister likened Congress’s repeated attempts to promote its leadership to rocket launches, remarking that Sriharikota does not see as many launches in a year as the number of failed attempts Congress makes to “launch its leader.”
PM Modi further asserted that Congress is willing to put the country’s international reputation at stake to shield its leadership from repeated political failures. The Prime Minister’s blistering critique comes amidst escalating political friction in the national capital over ongoing electoral roll revisions and opposition-led demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
