Police have arrested and forwarded to court two youths from Kunchibania village under Garadihi panchayat on charges of gang-raping a woman from the Berhampur police station area in Nilagiri block.
According to reports, the incident occurred last Sunday evening. The woman had just returned by bus from Baripada and was purchasing groceries at the Kalakad market. The two accused, identified as Litu alias Abhijit Singh (23) and Sipun Singh (20) of Kunchibania village, approached the woman and offered to drop her home on their motorcycle.
Trusting them, the woman accepted the ride. However, instead of taking her home, the accused drove her to a deserted quarry area where they allegedly gang-raped her before fleeing the scene.
Following the ordeal, the victim managed to inform her family about the incident, prompting them to file a formal complaint at the Brahmapur police station.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) J Patnaik registered a case, arrested both accused individuals, and forwarded them to court today.
