Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement on paper leaks, alleging that the Centre was responsible for weakening the country’s education system.
The Congress leader’s remarks came shortly after the Prime Minister announced the setting up of fast-track courts for paper leak cases and assured strict action against those responsible.
Rahul Gandhi’s Response
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of failing to protect students’ interests and reiterated the concerns raised by protesting students.
“You are the one who has harmed the future of our youth the most. You allowed and encouraged the total capture and destruction of our education system — and protected every person responsible for it,” Rahul Gandhi wrote.
The Congress MP said the government must take responsibility for the alleged examination irregularities instead of shifting the focus elsewhere.
PM Modi Announces Fast-Track Courts
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi announced that the Centre would establish fast-track courts to ensure swift trials and stringent punishment in paper leak cases.
In his message on X, the Prime Minister said protecting the future of students was the government’s highest priority.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth. We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks… Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.”
The announcement marked the Prime Minister’s first public statement on the paper leak controversy that has triggered protests across the country.
Political Row Intensifies
The exchange comes amid continuing student protests over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities.
Opposition parties, including the Congress, have demanded greater accountability from the Centre and sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while the government has maintained that it is committed to reforms and strict legal action against those responsible.
The issue has emerged as a major political flashpoint, with both the ruling BJP and the Opposition trading sharp accusations over the handling of the examination system.
