A shocking case of medical negligence has surfaced in Bolangir district, where a quack allegedly administered the wrong injection that led to the death of a patient in Larmbha under Patnagarh subdivision.
The victim, identified as 61-year-old Ishwar Sahani of Rengali village, suffered from vomiting and fever for two days. On Friday, his condition worsened, prompting his family to seek help from a local quack, Kunjaban Meher. Meher reportedly gave Sahani saline and an injection, after which the patient collapsed. Witnesses said the quack fled on his bike immediately after realising the patient had lost consciousness.
The family rushed Sahani to a nearby clinic, but doctors declared him dead. They later filed a written complaint at Larmbha Police Station, accusing Meher of illegal medical practice and negligence. Locals alleged that the accused tried to silence the family by offering a large sum of money through his relatives.
Police visited the hospital and sent the body for a post-mortem to Patnagarh, but residents expressed anger over the slow investigation. The incident has triggered outrage in the area, with villagers demanding strict action against the quack and accountability from the police.
Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway, and the health department has been informed about the case.
