Tension gripped Khallikote University in Ganjam as students launched a vigorous protest in response to the abrupt shutdown of the PG hostel.
The protestors locked the university’s main gate and staged a sit-in demonstration, voicing deep dissatisfaction over deteriorating academic conditions.
According to the agitating students, the closure of the hostel has caused severe inconveniences, especially for those from remote areas. Their frustration is further fueled by the discontinuation of various academic courses and a persistent shortage of teaching staff, which they claim is undermining the quality of education.
“The decision to shut down the hostel without a viable alternative is unacceptable,” said a protesting student. “We are also struggling academically due to the unavailability of teachers and the abrupt cancellation of several programs.”
Sources indicate that past incidents, including ragging complaints at the university’s R.K. Hostel, have also heightened tensions. While inquiries into those complaints are ongoing, students allege that administrative inaction has left key issues unresolved.
Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on the protest, even as the demonstrations continued throughout the day.
