New York: Priyanka Chopra has apologised for her participation in the CBS show The Activist in the wake of controversy and social media backlash. She said she has been “moved” by the criticism. She acknowledged that the show “got it wrong” and is “sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you”.

Priyanka apologised for the original format of CBS’ ‘The Activist’ a day after the network issued a statement announcing that it has decided to retool the competition series into a documentary after receiving backlash for the original concept.

The actress, American singer-songwriter Usher and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ fame Julianne Hough were cast as judges in the reality show which was set for premiere on October 22.

Earlier CBS had announced a change in The Activist’s format. It will be changed from a competition show to a one-time documentary.

The show’s announcement invited instant backlash with people on social media slamming the show for being “tone-deaf” and insensitive. Some ever called the show’s plot a “dystopian” celebration of “Insta-activism”.

“You were heard,” Chopra added. “The show got it wrong, and I’m sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you. The intention was always to bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly.”

The show producers removed the competitive elements from the show.
