President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth over Rs 47,600 crore in Odisha during a special programme at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.
The event marked two years of the state government and showcased a massive push for infrastructure and growth.
The dignitaries jointly unveiled 72 projects spanning energy, transportation, industrial infrastructure, irrigation, healthcare, education, tourism, and urban development. Key projects included the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project, Stage-II expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station with two 660 MW units, and the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited project in Jharsuguda.
Infrastructure initiatives featured a compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar, a new bridge over the Kathajodi River linking Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, and the four-laning of NH-353 from Nuapada to Ghatipada. The Kusumdihi Megalift Irrigation Project, an IGNOU Regional Centre at Rairangpur, and an Indoor Badminton Complex were also launched.
Completed projects inaugurated included a 300-bed District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh, 24 Atal Bus Stands, nine Automated Testing Stations, the Nayagarh Town Bypass, and a Tribal Research Centre at Rairangpur.
President Murmu dedicated two railway projects worth Rs 732 crore, including the Jakhapura–Jajpur Keonjhar Road–Baitarani Road multi-tracking project and the Hindol Road–Meramandali multi-tracking project. These projects aim to ease congestion, improve freight movement, and strengthen passenger connectivity.
The programme highlighted Odisha’s commitment to energy security, connectivity, and employment generation, especially in tribal and rural regions, under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara.”
