Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a short stopover in the United Arab Emirates in May while en route to a four-nation tour of Europe.
The visit, expected to last three to four hours, underscores the deepening diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi at a time of significant changes in global energy markets.
The stopover gains importance as it follows UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to India in January and subsequent high-level outreach in April by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. These interactions have reinforced the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Officials said the visit will provide an opportunity to review progress in bilateral cooperation and strengthen collaboration in energy, trade, and investment. The engagement also reflects India’s broader diplomatic push to consolidate ties with Gulf nations while advancing its global agenda.
The UAE remains a critical partner for India, not only in energy security but also in trade and diaspora relations. Modi’s brief halt is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Abu Dhabi while maintaining momentum in bilateral initiatives.
The stopover precedes Modi’s scheduled meetings in Europe, where he will engage with leaders across four nations to discuss trade, technology, and global security.
