Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded India’s recent sporting achievements, celebrating PV Sindhu’s historic Japan Open badminton title and the Indian women’s cricket team’s landmark Test victory at Lord’s.
Speaking during the 136th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Modi said India’s youth have achieved remarkable feats in sports. “PV Sindhu has become the first Indian to win the Japan Open title in badminton; the entire nation is proud of this achievement,” he noted.
He also praised the women’s cricket team for their emphatic 270‑run win over England at Lord’s, marking the venue’s first‑ever women’s Test match. “This is a historic victory. It was on this very ground that India won her first Cricket World Cup in 1983. Now, our ‘Nari Shakti’ has brought glory to the nation there,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, urging athletes to perform exceptionally and win the hearts of the people. He emphasised that sport is not only about competition but also a powerful medium to make education and cultural learning more engaging for young people.
