Early trends in the Maharashtra civic body elections show a favourable lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance, also known as Mahayuti, as counting continues across 29 civic bodies.
In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the alliance surged past the halfway mark, leading in 115 of the 227 seats. Nine candidates have already been declared winners, with Shiv Sena securing four wards, BJP three, Congress one, and AIMIM one.
In contrast, the Opposition coalition of Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP managed leads in only 68 wards. Congress trailed further behind, gaining early advantages in just 10 seats.
Meanwhile, counting of votes for 115 seats is underway in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Latest trends show BJP leading in 21 seats, Shiv Sena in 15, Shiv Sena (UBT) in six, and AIMIM in 12.
Counting continues across all centres, and final results are awaited.
