A gruesome hit‑and‑run accident has shaken the capital city after an unidentified vehicle struck two men near the Tamando foot overbridge in the early hours of Sunday.
According to reports, Hadu Mallik and his nephew Kabi Mallik, residents of Baghamari in Khordha, were travelling to Bhubaneswar’s fish market on a Luna moped when heavy rain forced them to stop near the overbridge around 4 am. Suddenly, a speeding vehicle rammed into them, throwing both onto the road.
Eyewitnesses said the uncle managed to crawl to safety, but his nephew was dragged by another vehicle all the way to Baramunda Bus Stand, where his headless body was later recovered. Locals rushed the injured survivor to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police have seized the body for post‑mortem and launched an investigation based on CCTV footage from the area. The shocking incident has sparked outrage, with residents demanding stricter enforcement against reckless driving and better safety measures on city highways.
