A shocking incident unfolded in the Bhatapada area under Jhirpani police limits of Raurkela, where a young woman allegedly set herself on fire outside her lover’s house after facing betrayal in a three‑year relationship.
According to preliminary police investigation, the woman had been in a relationship with Vicky Das for nearly three years. Reports suggest she had lent him money after borrowing from others to help him during financial difficulties. However, a dispute later arose between the two, leading to emotional distress.
On Saturday evening, the woman allegedly poured kerosene on herself and attempted suicide in front of Vicky’s residence. Locals rushed to her aid and informed police, who immediately shifted her to Ispat General Hospital’s Plastic Surgery Department, where she is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Police have detained one person for questioning and formed two teams to investigate whether the incident stemmed solely from a relationship dispute or involved a love‑triangle angle.
Family members of the victim have declined to comment, while police continue to probe the circumstances that drove the woman to such an extreme step.
