The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to roll out a city-wide awareness campaign to inform homebuyers about the importance of securing Completion Certificates (CC) and Occupancy Certificates (OC) for housing projects.
These documents, critical for accessing government utilities and validating property ownership, have often been neglected by developers, leaving residents in legal and logistical limbo.
This initiative follows strict actions taken by the Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) against non-compliant housing projects in Bhubaneswar. Recently, ORERA revoked registration for projects such as HN Courtyard and Mahalakshmi Nivas for irregularities, freezing developer assets and halting sales.
Through workshops, social media, and pamphlets, the BMC plans to educate the public, empowering buyers to demand these certifications and curbing fraudulent practices by developers. Sub-registrars and the Khurda district collector will also collaborate to ensure property registrations are blocked without valid certificates.
Mayor Sulochana Das emphasised, “Homebuyers deserve peace of mind, knowing their investments are backed by legal and safety measures. This campaign seeks to make that a reality.”
Buyers are advised to verify certificates before purchasing, while developers face stricter enforcement and penalties for non-compliance.
