Bijay Kumar Mallik, Former Godown In-Charge of the Dehunda Additional Storage Point, MARKFED, Balasore (Retired), was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore.

Mallik was found guilty of misappropriation of government funds related to the pilferage of fertilisers at the storage facility.

Charged under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code, Mallik has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and fined Rs 50,000. In the event of non-payment, he would face additional imprisonment as per the legal provisions.

Following this conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to approach the competent authority to halt the pension benefits of the retired officer.

The verdict underscores Odisha Vigilance’s commitment to combating corruption within public institutions and safeguarding government resources. This case serves as a pivotal reminder of the consequences of misappropriating public funds.
