A pregnant woman travelling aboard the Bangiriposi–Puri Express gave birth to a healthy baby girl on the platform of Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Saturday.
According to reports, the woman experienced severe labour pains as the train approached Bhubaneswar. Immediately after the train pulled into the station, she was brought out onto the platform, where she went into labour.
Alerted to the situation, female personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) alongside members of the ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative rushed to the spot to assist. The team provided immediate privacy, necessary assistance, and safe care to enable the successful delivery of the newborn girl right on the platform. Fellow passengers on the platform also stepped in to offer assistance during the emergency.
Following primary post-natal care, both the mother and the infant were safely shifted to Capital Hospital via an ambulance for further medical observation. ECoR officials confirmed that both the mother and the newborn are doing well and are currently under treatment.
