India clinched the three-match ODI series against West Indies by a 2-1 margin even as the visitors produced a clinical chase to win the final match by five wickets in New Chandigarh on Saturday.
India, batting first after winning the toss, recovered from a shaky start to post 351 for 7 in their 50 overs. Early wickets left them in trouble, but Rohit Sharma (92) and KL Rahul (129 not out) rebuilt the innings, with Ruturaj Gaikwad contributing 57. Rahul’s unbeaten century, his highest ODI score, and a late acceleration helped India reach a competitive total on a good batting surface.
West Indies responded with authority. Shai Hope, who kept wickets throughout India’s innings, then opened the batting and carried his bat for an unbeaten 162 off 143 balls. His measured yet aggressive knock guided the chase, and West Indies reached 352 for 5 in 48.2 overs to win with 10 balls remaining.
The victory gave the visitors a consolation win in the series finale after they had lost the first two matches.
The result underlined the batting depth on both sides in a high-scoring contest at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
While India’s series triumph confirmed their superiority across the three games, Hope’s match-winning effort provided West Indies with a positive note to end the tour.
