Bhubaneswar: Under the ongoing ‘Operation Cleanup’ in Odisha Prisons, the authorities have recovered SIM cards, mobile phones, chargers, batteries, and ganja from Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, as many as six mobile handsets including a smartphone, four SIM cards, five mobile chargers, five cell phone batteries, one pen drive, and 250 grams of Ganja-like substances buried underground.
These articles were seized from the backside of the dining hall and Ward No. 15, near Ward No. 1 and the segregation ward. Besides, the Ganja-like substances has been destroyed as per Rule 446 (a) of the Odisha Model Jail Manual, 2020.
In this regard, an FIR has been lodged at the Laxmisagar Police Station today and the unclaimed seized articles were handed over to the police authorities with proper acknowledgment.
Operation “clean up” is being undertaken under the supervision of Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, DG of Prisons and Director of Correctional Services, Odisha for complete and overall reform and change of the Jail sub-culture in a mission mode.
This mission will be intensified till the Jail authorities get satisfied with zero contraband articles in their respective Jails. Making Jails free of mobiles and contrabands is a mandate under the ‘5T’ programme of the Government of Odisha, the State Prisons Headquarters stated, in a press note.
