5T In Odisha Prisons: Seven Officials Given Compulsory Retirement; Operation Cleanup Intensified

Bhubaneswar: Under the 5T Charter of the state government, the Prisons In Odisha have implemented several reformative measures including the transfer policy of jail officers and warders.

As per reports, the state government has approved a new transfer policy of jail officers and warders which was never pursued earlier. Now, jail officers, warders cannot be posted in home subdivisions and senior officers in home district jurisdictions. This has been implemented for the first time in 2021.

“All concerned have been transferred out. Similarly, some staff (warders) staying at particular places are being shifted out to break local nexus. This is happening for the first time in history, it was learned.

In compliance with the direction of Santosh Upadhyaya, DG Prisons, and Correctional Services, Odisha dreaded gangsters are being separated and transferred out to separate jails under the ongoing “Operation Cleanup”. The operation has been intensified and it will help in breaking the local nexus, officials said.

Searches of wards have been intensified and slack Superintendents are being shunted out. Zero tolerance policy on corruption has been enforced strictly in jails across the state. Besides, some corrupt officers are under secret watch for action under premature retirement policy of govt.

Further, the Jails have been modernized with capacity increase and up-gradation of IT and other food processing industries and the website keeps updates on individual jail population size and capacity.
