Odisha To Provide Assistance To Betel Leaf, Kewda Flower Farmers In Puri, Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: The State government decided to include all betel famrers in special state scheme and provided with financial assistance. Farmers with at least 2000 square meters of paddy fields will be considered eligible for assistance. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment will make special regulations for this

The farmers who have betel farming will be given financial assistance of Rs 2500 per unit for its management. A farmer will get assistance for a maximum of two units. Wide awareness will be created regarding interest-free loans of up to Rs 1 lakh through Kishan Credit Card for betel farming.

Clarification will be sought from the GST Commissioner regarding the implementation of GST in the Betel leaf business. Betel leaf processing units will be provided subsidy under the Mukhyamantri Krishi Udyog Yojana

Similarly, Kewda flower farmers of Ganjam will also be promoted under National Horticulture. In addition to support from the Horticulture Mission, additional support will be provided from the state budget for Kewda flower cultivation. This support will be provided through scientific mapping of the Kewda cultivation areas.

Assistance will be given on the basis of report of Ganjam District Collector for kewda crops damaged in natural calamities. For this, the Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department and the Ganjam District Collector will jointly prepare the modality

Necessary changes will be made in the provisions of the scheme to include Kewda flower processing units under Chief Minister’s Agriculture Scheme.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of CMO in which 5T Secretary V.K. Pandian, Development Commission, Agriculture secretary were present.

During 5T secretary Pandian’s visit to Puri and Ganjam, many objections were raised from the local farmers and farmers regarding various problems. A review meeting was held today by the Chief Minister’s office to resolve all of the farmers.
